Janet L. Cross, 92, passed away on Thursday morning, July 9, 2026, at her daughter's home in Florida.
Janet was born September 16, 1933, to Leon and Elizabeth (Brown) Cruea. She graduated from Eaton High School in 1951. She went on to work at Ball State University, The Eaton Furniture Factory, and retired from Delta High School after 20 years acting as Executive Secretary. She was so proud to be a Delta Eagle. After retirement, she cared for her mom and mother-in-law. She was an officer of the Psi Iota Xi sorority, a member of the Lakeview Women's Association, bookkeeper for Lakeview Country Club, and an active member of Eaton First Church of God.
On May 7, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Cross. Together, they raised their two daughters, Lu Anne and Julia, in Eaton.
Janet was a loving wife, mother, grandma, sister, great-grandma, aunt, and friend.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling with her husband to Branson, Missouri, and Florida, taking day trips to various places, camping, and supporting her grandchildren in their activities. She also cherished her many friends from church, her special friends, Adda Boyd and Betty Davis, and many others, including those she got to know through her weekly lunches with Harold at MCL Cafeteria.
She is survived by her daughters Lu Anne (Marvin) Porter of Valrico, Florida, Julia (Robin) Wood of Yorktown, Indiana, her brother Jerry (Anna) Cruea, her sister Jennifer (Bob) Hooker, five grandchildren Holly (Tony) Supan, Hilary Miller (Basem Elemory), Corbin Black (Natalia Hausler, fiancée), Maggie (Skyler) Stephans, Gracie (Wesley) Crouch, bonus grandchildren Catherine (Michael) Hill, Leah (Aaron) Harrell, Brady (Alicia) Wood, Annie (James) Bell, and 8 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way, a bonus great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jack and Jeffery Cruea, and her husband, Harold Cross.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Eaton First Church of God, 700 East Harris St., Eaton, with Pastor Glen Grenier officiating. Burial will follow at Eaton Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. before the service. Memorial donations can be made to Eaton First Church of God.
