Nelda Faye Smith, 82, passed away at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, Tuesday evening, July 21, 2026, with her family at her side.

Nelda was born on March 24, 1944, to Wolferd and Pansy (Smith) Cravens. She was a 1962 graduate of Eaton High School and on November 2, 1963, she married Lewis Smith in Shideler.

Nelda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed knitting and crocheting but most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family.

Over the years, Nelda worked at the Muncie Star Press and as a beauty consultant for LS Ayres, Macy’s and Carson’s at the Muncie Mall and Dillard’s in Richmond.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Lewis Smith; her children: Louis “Allen” Smith (Amy), Angie Wagner (Ben), and Richard Smith (Jennifer); her sister, Sue Crozier (John); brother-in-law, Sam Powell; seven grandchildren: Corey Smith (Kaylee), Kayleigh Barnes (Cameron), Wesley Wagner, Wyatt Wagner, Evan Smith, Aiden Heffernan (Preston) and Jordan Scott; six great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents Wolferd Cravens and Pansy Hawkins, Nelda was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Cravens and Junior Cravens and her sister, Jewell Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery, Albany.

Visitation will be at the funeral home, prior to services starting at 10:00 a.m.
