Richard "Gene" Rench, 86, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Gene was born on February 13, 1930 in Eaton, Indiana to Mark L. and Mamie (Lykins) Rench. He was born in the old house on the grounds of the Eaton Union Cemetery. Gene enjoyed joking about being born in a cemetery.
He was a 1949 graduate of Eaton High School. On September 22, 1950, he married Carol Hollowell in Shideler, Indiana. Later, Gene would serve his country in the Army during the Korean War where he attained the rank of corporal.
Gene retired from Borg Warner in 1991 after 41 years of employment and was a member of the Amvets Post #12 and the Moose Lodge #33 He was truly a people person and was an avid golfer. Together with his wife Carol, he enjoyed spending his winters in Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carol Rench, his daughter, Debra Hill (Kim), granddaughter, Terri Hines (John), great-grandchildren, Jacob Hines and Jessica Hines, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a son, Robert Dale Rench, and two brothers, Donald Keith Rench and Jerry Rench.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Eaton Union Cemetery Chapel, 16301 N. State Road 3, Eaton with Pastor Bob Ewert officiating. Burial with Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow.
Visitation for friends and family will be on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton and from 12:00 to 1:00 pm Thursday at the cemetery.
