Muncie — Ronald E. Goney, 72, was called home unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Ron was born in Muncie on June 25, 1954, to Hershel and Imogene (Dossett) Goney. He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1971 and married the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Linville, on June 1, 1986.

Ron was the kind of man who greeted everyone with a smile and never hesitated to lend a hand. He would do anything for anyone, often without being asked, and had a way of making people feel welcome wherever he went. He worked hard his entire life and took great pride in what he could accomplish with his own two hands.

Ron was a member of the United Steel Workers of America #2045 until its closure and a proud member of the Local 1112 Laborers’ Union for more than 44 years. He spent more than 30 years working with Verkler Construction, where his talent, determination and ability to figure out just about anything made him a respected and dependable contractor.

While Ron was proud of his work, the most meaningful chapter of his life was his family—especially his grandchildren. His grandkids called him Papaw Ron, and if one of them was doing something, you could almost guarantee Papaw Ron would be there. Whether it was a game, an activity, an accomplishment or simply spending time together, he showed up. He was their biggest supporter, their steady presence and, above all, someone they could always count on.

Ron loved being outdoors and enjoyed the simple things that came with it—camping, fishing, boating and even mowing the yard. He also had a lifelong love of classic cars and spent countless hours working tirelessly on his old Mercury. He loved being busy, working with his hands and figuring out how to make something work.

Ron was a member of Riverview Baptist Church and found comfort in his faith. He never liked saying goodbye, believing that goodbye was too final. Instead, he leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter and memories that will continue to live on in the people who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Ron’s memory include his wife, Patty Goney; his children, Travis Goney, Ronnie Goney (Erin), Steve Tweedy Jr., and Crystal Brecher (Tim); his sisters, Sharon Liechty (Bob), Linda Lairson and Debbie Taylor; seven grandchildren, Dawson Goney, Ashton Goney, Elaina Goney, Toby Brecher, Eli Brecher, Sammie Brecher and Catricia Clark; two great-grandchildren, Willow and Maverick Clark; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Imogene Goney.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Eaton Church of God, 700 E. Harris St., Eaton, with Pastor DeWayne Loveless officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
