Zora Evelyn Newton, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 26, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.


John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.


Evelyn was born on August 31, 1930 to Rev. Levi and Mary Elizabeth (Stephens) Cox. She attended Whitley City Elementary and McCreary County High School of Whitley City, Kentucky. She worked at Conaster Store and Anderson's Clothing Store in Whitley City in her teenage years.


Evelyn married Paul E. Strunk and to this union, five children were born. Two sons: Paul E. Strunk Jr.(Bonnie), and Scott W. Strunk; three daughters: Sandra K. Strunk, Judy A. Millikan (Tony) and Debra L. Phillips (Larry)


She moved to Eaton in 1959 where she has made her home ever since. She worked at Douglas Furniture for ten years and retired from Indiana Glass Dunkirk after 28 years of employment. Evelyn is a member of Riverview United Baptist Church of Albany, Indiana. She has dedicated her life to her husband, Robert whom she married in 1970, as well as her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her Lord.


In addition to her children, she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert H. Newton, two step-sons, Terry Newton (Debbie) and Tex Newton; eleven grandchildren: Kristy Swoveland (Aaron), Sheri Currey (Jerry), Lorri Loser (Cris), Paul R. Strunk, Larry Strunk, Krystal Frazee, Jennifer Phillips, Brigett Phillips, Brianna Phillips, Crystal Callahan and Pete Smith; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa Waters and Mary Worley as well as several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by three brothers: Fred Cox, Elmer Cox and James Cox; five sisters: Nora Perry, Dora Sumner, Margaret Cox, Laura Cox, and Flora Jones; three grandchildren: Gary W. Strunk, R. Allan Anglin and Jamie Lynn Millikan, and a daughter-in-law, Ann Strunk.


Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Rev. Chuck Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.


Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 1 and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
