Carl "Gene" Van Pelt Obituary

Carl E. “Gene” Van Pelt, 95, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Gene was born on July 21, 1929, to Ira and Velva Van Pelt. He graduated from Eaton High School and went on to serve his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

On January 3, 1949, he married the love of his life, Doris McCollum and together they would celebrate 60 years of marriage. Doris and Gene shared many happy years visiting with family and friends as they traveled the country in their Airstream.

Gene worked for Warner Gear in Muncie, retiring after over 35 years of employment.

Survivors include his many nieces and nephews and well as several friends.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife Doris; his siblings: Jack, Robert and Duane Van Pelt, Betty Morgan and Beverly Stonebraker; and his stepson Richard Williams.

Graveside funeral services with Military Rites by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, 10703 N State Road 3, Muncie, Indiana with Brian Waters officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be prior to the graveside service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S Hartford St., Eaton.

Gene’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the staff at the Waters of Muncie for the kind care of their uncle.
