Edmund Franklin Martin, 89, passed away peacefully Wednesday April 6th, 2022 at his home in Eaton, IN surrounded by family.  He was born on November 10th, 1932 and was the youngest of 5 children to the late Robert and Hazel Martin.

Ed was a graduate of Eaton High School in 1951.  He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Barbara, in 1953.  They were blessed with 5 amazing children and raised their family in rural Eaton, IN.  Ed was a dedicated, loyal, and supportive friend to all that knew him.  He enjoyed traveling the world over the years with wife Barbara, family, and friends.  Ed enlisted in the United States Army in 1953.  He served as a member of the Army Military Police and was honorably discharged in 1961.  After serving his country, Ed attended Ball State University and graduated with a degree in Business & Economics.  Ed owned and operated Martin Insurance Agency and Martin Pools.  Later he became the Plant Manager at the Dunkirk Agbest Co-Op until he retired in 1997.  Ed was a member of the Eaton Lions Club and the Dunkirk Elks.  In retirement, Ed loved spending time with his grandchildren and spoiled them with snowmobiles, jet skis, go karts and 4 wheelers.  He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing trips to Canada, attending the Rodeo and playing Blackjack in Las Vegas, country dancing, sitting outside on the swing with Barbara, mushroom hunting, gardening, and playing various card games with friends and family. 

Ed is survived 4 children: Sandra (Stu) Cowgill, Karen (Ken “Cowboy” DeFrance) Martin, Keith (Kim) Martin, Kim (Adam) Corn; 6 grandchildren: Kyle Cowgill, Whitnie (David) Scott, Kurt (Allyson) Cowgill, Dane (Chelsie Mason) Shaw, Jacob Martin, Kennedy Martin-DeFrance; and 3 great-grandchildren: Lea Rees-Scott, Kayleigh Milton, and Clara Scott. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Barbara L. Martin; son, Scott Allen Martin; and 4 siblings: Wayne (Virginia) Martin, Lawrence (Irma) Martin, Robert (Ruth Ann) Martin, Nellie Jean (Ted) Studebaker; 11 sibling in-laws: Harold (Pauline) Gourley, Don (Ada) Gourley, Pauline (John) Hess, Wendell (Ellen) Gourley, Lawrence Gourley, Louise (Orville) Johnson, Mary Dean (Orville) Johnson, Merrill (Nondas) Gourley, Merle Gourley, Joyce (Fred) Rogers, and Norman (Alberta) Gourley.

A celebration of life with Military Funeral Honors by the US Army and the Dunkirk American Legion #227 will be held at 5 p on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Dunkirk Elks Lodge #1776, 1026 S Main St., Dunkirk with Pastor Frank Oakman officiating.

Visitation will start at the lodge beginning at 3 pm with a food buffet to follow the services through Friday evening.

Ed will be privately entombed at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
