Elma L. "Mama" Matthews, 77, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Elma was born on May 18, 1939 in Fentress County Tennessee to Roscoe and Ordie (Norman) Terry. On September 10, 1955 she married Stanley Matthews in Tennessee. Together they moved to Indiana and raised their four children.

Elma owned and operated Matthews Upholstery in Royerton for over 40 years.

She was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church. Elma enjoyed gardening and watching old westerns and nature shows. Most of all, she loved her family gatherings. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and her friends.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stanley Matthews Sr., her children: Stanley Matthews Jr. (Terri), Sandy Traylor, Sheri Lankford (Mike), and Stephanie Smith (Ed Hicks), eight grandchildren: James Hite Jr. (Eukaliz), Adam Matthews (Rikki), Amy Sites (Nathan), Eric Lankford (Rhea), Zachary Matthews (Chelsea), Alex Smith, Angela Lankford, and Brooke Hicks, 18 great-grandchildren, a brother, Dennis Terry, sister, Gladys Brown, half-brother, Johnny Beaty, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents Roscoe Terry and Ordie Beaty, Elma was preceded in death by three brothers, Stanley "Pug" Terry, Billy Terry and Cecil Terry, a sister, Allene Motherspau, two grandsons, Christopher Hite, and David Lankford, a half-brother, Bob Beaty, and two half-sisters, Jean Duncan and Netta Duncan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Dewayne Loveless officiating. Burial will follow at Eaton Union Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 11 and one hour prior to services Wednesday.
