GERALDINE M. LEAIRD JONES

MUNCIE, INDIANA Geraldine M. “Jerry” Leaird Jones, 93, passed away Saturday, April 16 at Morrison Woods Health Campus, Muncie. Geraldine was born July 30, 1917 in New Castle to Valentine C. and Edith Mae (Sharpe) Helwig. She graduated from Eaton High School in 1934 and Ball State University. On December 24, 1937, she married William T. Leaird. His death occurred April 29, 1968. She later married Lloyd Jones and he precedes her in death. A resident of the Eaton-Shideler area for most of her life, Geraldine owned the Family Store in Eaton for over 20 years. She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie, Eaton Wednesday Afternoon Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority and Shideler Homemakers. Survivors include two sons, Tom (Bobbi) Leaird, Muncie and Ken (Sandy) Leaird, Leslie, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Dan (Jeni Rust) Leaird, West Lafayette, Tamara (husband, Patrick) Connelly, Muncie, Bart (Ann) Leaird, Pittsboro, and Chantal Leis, Elkhart and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 in Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, with Pastor Charlotte Overmyer officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Eaton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, April 22. Memorials may be directed to the High Street United Methodist Church, Muncie or the Muncie Mission.
