James Vaughn Obituary

Muncie, IN

James Arthur Vaughn, 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 9, 2024, peacefully in the company of his loving brother, William Vaughn and sister-in-law, Sheryl Vaughn after a difficult battle with cancer.

James spent his life aggravating everyone he knew, just to get a good laugh out of them. James had many adventures in his life, but none was more important to him than the adventure of his family. A loving uncle, James loved nothing more than trying to get a rise out of his numerous nieces and nephews. Whether fighting pretend wolves outside of his nieces’ bedroom windows to scare them into bed or teaching his nephew how to perfect a bowl of top ramen, there was no greater pleasure in his life than spending time with his loved ones. His nieces and nephews have memory upon memory of their adventures with Uncle James as a child.

James found a passion for driving in his early years and drove a semi-truck all across the United States, making everyone laugh along the way, as often as he could. He always had a smile on his face and a trick up his sleeve. If his life was any indication of the afterlife, James will continue to let us know what he’s up to.

James loved art, specifically oil painting. Many of his pieces seemed inspired by, “Where’s Waldo,” hiding Bigfoot throughout the paintings. James also had a penchant for story telling and could talk off anyone’s ear that would listen. He would do anything or give anything to someone in need, whether he could afford to give it or not. He loved fiercely and everyone knew that they were safe and protected when there were with James. Anything you needed, James would do his all to get it for you.

James is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lola May and William Henry Vaughn, and his brother, David Allen Vaughn.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Overholser, (husband, Mike); grandson, Matthew Overholser; granddaughter, Makenzie Overholser; his siblings: William Vaughn (Sheryl), Charles Vaughn, Janice Standard (Thomas), and Samuel Vaughn; his nieces and nephews: Devin Vaughn, Melissa Barnett, Elly Vaughn, Emily Scott (Clayton), Brandy Harding (Shane), Tammy Coyle Walter (Randy), Deacon Vaughn, Timothy Vaughn (Ginger), Billy Vaughn (Stephanie), Brian Brees, Ashley Coleman (David), Erin Bruening (Chris), as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Cremation arrangements are entrusted with Pitman-Richman Funeral Home of Eaton, Indiana.

Services will be private for the family.

James' family would like to express their sincere appreciation to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospice and the Union Township Trustee for their support during this difficult time.
