Jimmie Vance, 82, long-time Eaton resident and former Town Marshall, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born in Shelbyville, Indiana to Lee and Lola (Bell) Vance, Jimmie lived in several different places before settling in Eaton. He would work for Irving Materials first as a truck driver and finishing his career there in security. Jimmy also served as both Deputy Marshall and Town Marshall for the Town of Eaton for many years. Later on, Jimmie would drive for Eaton EMTs.
He was a long-time member of the Indiana Sheriffs Association as well as the Fraternal Order of Police.
Jimmie was a well-known and well-loved member of the Eaton Community. He is known for his long stories, occupying a seat at the Eaton Pantry, his famous popcorn and popcorn cookers, and taking care of his friends and neighbors.
Jimmie had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone, including mowing for those that couldn't or driving friends long-distances to family reunions. He truly cared for this little town. Even after retiring from the police department, Jimmie would drive around town, keeping an eye on everything.
His surviving family include three daughters: Melba Beaver, Cheryl Balance, and Barbara Gibson; two brothers, Earl Vance (Nancy), and Bob Vance (Sharon); two sisters, Sharon Kelley and Patty Suggs; a sister-in-law, Betty Vance; several nieces and nephews as well as his caregivers and close friends, Ken Vandevender (Kristie) and Hillary Morris and her children, Khloe and Jase.
In addition to his parents and seven children, Jimmie was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Eugene Vance and Lee Vance Jr., and a sister, Gretchen Vance.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home 200 S. Hartford St. Eaton, Indiana.
