John T. Liggett, 72, long-time police officer in Eaton, Indiana and loving husband, father and grandfather, died on June 12, 2022 in Dayton, Ohio.

John was born on March 22, 1950 in Muncie, Indiana to Jack and Margaret (Parkins) Liggett. He was a 1968 graduate of Muncie Central High School and went on to service his country in the US Marines during Vietnam.

John served the community of Eaton for over 33 years as a police officer and later retired as Town Marshall. He was a member of Lighthouse Church in Hartford City and Highlands Community Church in Sebring, Florida when he wintered in Avon Park. John loved spending time with his grandchildren and also enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and drag racing. In fact, he had the fastest wheelchair at the Muncie Speedway.

On March 1, 1986 he married Joyce Ann Riggins.

John is surviving by his loving wife of 36 years, Joyce Liggett; his children: Brad Liggett (Jenera), Ronnie Liggett (Traci), Charity Riddell (Jeff), Kristin Whitesell (Paul), Brooke Gardner (Rob) and Charles McIntire (Michelle); his brother, Jerry Liggett (Shirley); sister, Jackie Berwanger (Carl); eight grandchildren: Christopher Liggett (Kortni), Kayleigh Rowe, Paige Liggett, Jack Liggett, Robby Gardner (Sidney), Braden Whitesell (Alyssa), Morgan Gardner and Adon McIntire; eleven great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek Norris.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Lighthouse Church 2101 N Walnut St., Hartford City, with Pastor Troy Kaufman officiating. Burial with Military Funeral Honors by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will follow at Eaton Union Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home 200 S Hartford St., Eaton and from 10:00 to 11:00 Friday at the church.
