On Wednesday July 9, 2025 Madonna Joan (Jones) Waugh, 90 years old, passed to join her husband of 70 years, Ernest.
Madonna was born on November 18th 1934 in Mattoon Illinois to Virgil and Beulah (Auvil) Jones. Growing up Madonna moved from Mattoon Il to Evansville IN, to Terre Haute, ending up in Muncie IN. Madonna was a proud graduate of Muncie Central Senior High School and stayed involved with her Bearcats Class of 1952. Over the years she orchestrated many reunions and related events/activities.
Madonna married Ernest Waugh in August of 1955 and had two sons, Brian and Bruce and their daughter Brenda. She held several positions including working for Franklin Finance, the Muncie School District, the Delaware County Assessor’s office and at Pazols Jewelers while raising her family.
Madonna had great love for and support of her family being very close with her brother Fred and sister Peg as well as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She supported the family business, Waugh’s Excavating Inc, managing the business operations for Ernie for 20 + years. While helping with the family business she continued to hold multiple offices in various organizations including her sorority Psi Iota Xi, the Wednesday Afternoon Club, the Delaware County Extension Homemakers 42nd Club and the Bearcat Class of ’52 Committee.
Madonna was proceeded in death by Ernest, her parents Virgil and Beulah Jones, and brother Fred Jones. She is survived by her sister Peg Vardaman; son Brian and his wife Melissa (Dehn), son Bruce, and daughter Brenda; Brian’s children Brett, Beth and Noah Dehn, Brianna and Kevin Kern, and great granddaughter Brigette Kern; Brenda’s daughter Brittany and Chris Welsch and great grandchildren Riley, Graham, Grier, and Reese; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Visitation to start at 5:00 PM with a Celebration Service at 6:00 PM at Pitman Richman Funeral Home, 200 South Hartford Street, Eaton, Indiana 47338.
