Mary Louise Smithers, 79, died at home on January 20, 2025, after an extended illness.

Mary was born on October 13, 1945, in Muncie to Robert and Iva (Thompson) Pitman. Mary was one of thirteen children, and she grew up in the Eaton area. She was a 1963 graduate of Eaton High School and she married the love of her life, Chuck Smithers on November 9, 1991.

Mary was a homemaker and also worked as a server for many different restaurants, most recently at Bob Evan’s.

She is survived by her loving children, Robin Wehlage (homecare giver), Dana Rigney (Mike), Angie Davis, and Rodney Wehlage (Rene); sister-in-law, Lynn Webb, as well eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Smithers, and twelve brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home 200 S Hartford St., Eaton with her son, Rodney Wehlage officiating. Burial will follow at Eaton Union Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friend will be prior to the funeral service on Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m.
