Harold Max Smith, 89, died on Monday, April 18, 2022 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Max was born on September 23, 1932 in Gaston, Indiana to William and Pansy (Millspaugh) Smith. After graduation Max served his country in the 82nd Airborne and married Mary Hankins in 1953. Together they would raise their three children.

Max worked for Warner Gear in Muncie.

He is survived by his son William Smith of Eaton; his daughter Samara Perry (Bill) of Litchfield, New Hampshire; eight grandchildren: Misty Garringer, Shawn Kuba, Lucas Smith, Jeremy Wine (Sarah), Dustin Wine (Jessica), Kenneth Wine (Sally), Rachel Perry and William Perry (Ally) as well fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by his wife Mary; his son Butch Smith and his siblings: William Smith, Richard Smith, Uva Mae Collins, Betty Foust, Christal Marine and Janet Smoot.

Graveside services with Military Funeral Honors by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Gardens of Memory 10703 N State Road 3, Muncie.
