Rex Morgan Obituary

Eaton, IN

Rex Arlen Morgan of Eaton, Indiana, passed away on March 3, 2024, to be with the Lord and reunited with his loving wife, Jean Ellen (Powell) Morgan, who preceded him in death on August 5, 2023. Rex was born in Roll, Indiana, on July 20, 1930, son of the late Herschel and Nina Morgan. Rex lived a life full of love and adventure.

He is survived by his daughter, Kay Lynne Crockett; 9 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Herschel and Nina Morgan, wife Jean Ellen Morgan, son Christopher Lee Morgan, his son-in-law Jimmie Edward Crockett, and his sisters Sara Adams and Phyllis Owen.

Rex graduated from Royerton High School in 1948 and later attended Tri-State University in Ft. Wayne, IN. On February 20, 1957, he married Jean Ellen Morgan, and they shared 66 years of marriage together.

A self-employed sales representative for many tool and die manufacturers, Rex worked well into his 80s. He was a storyteller, often recounting memories of making brooms with his dad as a child and selling them door to door. He served in the United States Air Force as an airplane dispatch clerk during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.

Rex was a long time member of the Eaton United Methodist Church and Muncie Alliance Church. He served on many committees and was a member of the missionary group "Men for Missions," participating in numerous missions trips.

Rex fulfilled his dream of owning a farm in Eaton, where he raised horses and enjoyed fishing at his pond. He shared his passion for horses with Josie, the family horse, by letting all the kids ride her and taking part in many horse shows and 4-H events with his granddaughter Dawn.

He planted a field of pine trees with his great-grandson Austin, brother in law Glen Adams, son-in-law Jim Crockett, and grandson Caleb Crockett, naming it the "Morgan Tree Farm." Rex was a skilled builder, crafting a fiberglass canoe, a camper, a gas BBQ oven, and the family favorite dune buggy. He also ran a countertop business from his garage for many years. He took his family on many wonderful vacations in the US and logged many miles on the road.

Rex was an active sportsman, participating in weightlifting, bicycling, tennis, snow skiing, waterskiing, snowmobiling, horseback riding, archery and more. An avid hunter, he proudly displayed trophies of a mountain lion, antelope, and deer. Rex fulfilled his dream of becoming a pilot, earning his license after many hours of classes and owning a small airplane for a few years.

Above all, Rex was a godly man who loved the Lord, cherished his family dearly, and took great pride in their accomplishments. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Sunday March 10th at 3pm at Rex and Jean's house (4485 E Co Rd 1100 N, Eaton, IN) with pastor Greg Lex officiating.

Friends and family are welcome to gather at their home starting at 2:00pm prior to the services.
